BaseVac Dental’s Commonly asked Questions

BaseVac vacuum systems are designed and function like no other vacuum system in the Dental Industry. The uniqueness of our product lines often results in questions about how our systems work and how they differ from other dry and wet-vacuum systems on the market.

Today we will be providing answers to commonly asked questions by Dental Professionals.

Commonly Asked Questions

Will it be as strong as my water ring suction?

Yes, in fact, stronger! Both water ring and rotary vane pumps provide the similar horsepower to airflow performance. The BaseVac System hos 25"Hg suction power. This evacuates the system well beyond the
required level acting as storage of unused volume. This makes for more constant suction.

Can I use my old piping?

Absolutely! Smaller is normally better. Vacuum lines with a 1"-2" are great; anything over that, even 6" just means a lower "in pipe" air velocity. The BaseVac extra suction power of up to 25"Hg overcomes piping differences.

I have a big clinic; what if only one operatory is working? Will the pump be ok?

Yes, each BaseVac pump has a built-in vacuum control/safety valve that protects the pump from
overloading. The bonus is that BaseVac rotary vane pumps love the heat so one user or ten won’t
hurt our systems.

Will it fit in the space of my water ring pump?

Normally, maybe, depending, possibly. Each clinic is designed differently. If the mechanical room is designed well, BaseVac units have one of the smallest dry-vacuum footprints in the industry. The pump frame is a two-foot cube which is similar to a dual water ring vacuum. We stock the pumps vertically so we only use the cost-effective cube floor space. The only problem, we need some space for an air/water separator, something you don’t need in a wet system. The separator can also be stacked to save floor space.

How long will it last?

BaseVac has a manufacturer guarantee for five years. You should expect to service the pump around twice in those years. Once for inspection and the second to change a set of vanes/filter. The components are of industrial quality with a 20-year life spoon if properly maintained. All of BaseVac parts are upgradeable and replaceable. BaseVac chooses to design our systems to be robust and last a doctor’s entire career. We believe that a replacement part shouldn’t be as expensive as buying a new system, so our replacement parts, like motors, are cost-effective and long-lasting.

What if I need more power? Can I add another pump?

Yes, all BaseVac Systems are self-contained; however, the controls are able to link to the air/water
separator as a single to a quadruple system. Due to the recent COVID pandemic and the need for more vacuum power, BaseVac has designed a motor upgrade program to exchange our 4.25 motor (1.2 hp) with our 4.40 (2 hp) motor without adding to the vacuum’s footprint.

Will it just plugin?

There is no dental vacuum unit on the market that is completely plug and play. BaseVac does come close, especially our custom units for large applications.

Our systems require a 22A volt fused breaker and an electrician to wire it in. Once an electrician runs a 220v line to the pump, connects it to the buck-boost, then connects a 220 outlet to the buck-boost, our systems can be plugged into the outlet.

What else do I need to upgrade to a dry suction?

An air/water separator is mandatory. This is a tank that collects the liquid and debris not trapped
in the amalgam separator. A dry pump should not suck water into it. You also have to provide a pump exhaust outside the pump room or building. If your location is a closet, you should plan to
vent the closet to keep the temperature between 30 degrees and 40 degrees Celsius.
